Victorinox has become a global symbol of Swiss quality, precision, and innovation. Best known for creating the iconic Swiss Army Knife, the company has built a reputation for producing reliable tools designed to last.
The story began in 1884 when Karl Elsener opened a small cutlery workshop in Ibach, Switzerland. His goal was to support the local community and produce high-quality knives. Just a few years later, in 1891, his company began supplying knives to the Swiss Army.
In 1897, Elsener developed the “Officer’s and Sports Knife,” a compact multi-tool that would later become known worldwide as the Swiss Army Knife. This innovative design combined several tools into one practical device.
The company name Victorinox was created by combining the name of Elsener’s mother, Victoria, with “inox,” the French word for stainless steel.
Today, Victorinox continues to manufacture its products in Switzerland while expanding its range to include kitchen knives, travel gear, watches, and fragrances. Despite its global success, the brand remains committed to the same values of quality, functionality, and craftsmanship that defined it from the beginning.
